Jo came to yoga by accident whilst living overseas in the noughties.  She hasn't looked back since and would be lost without it! 

Jo has been teaching yoga in Lincolnshire for over 10 years.  She offers general yoga classes for adults as well as regular workshops. 

Jo aims to incorporate yoga into her daily life, and seeks to help her students do the same. Yoga is helpful on and off the mat!

About Yoga & Jo

Whilst living in Sydney Jo was introduced to Ashtanga yoga, and on her way back to England spent time under the tuition of Sri K. Patthabi Jois and his grandson Sharath in Mysore, India.  She completed teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga in 2006 and soon after trained with Jo Manuel at the Special Yoga Centre in London.  Five years later, whilst pregnant with her first baby, Jo trained to teach pre-natal yoga. 

Jo has experience of many styles of yoga; Ashtanga, Sun Power, Yin, Restorative, Hot Yoga and for the last ten years; Jivamukti Yoga, under the guiding hand of Andrea Kwiatkowski.  Jo is also trained to teach Yin yoga; a wonderfully quiet style of yoga. Her teaching draws upon all these influences. As you can tell, Jo is committed to ongoing training!

Jo’s practice continues to grow with her, as life takes its twists and turns. Yoga has provided her with a strength and comfort ever since she first tried a class, and she looks forward to sharing the benefits of the practice with you. 

Yoga offers a means of maintaining physical and emotional well-being in our busy lives.  Yoga links movement with the breath with the aim of bringing us to a state of concentration and calm.  Physically it can improve flexibility and strength, and mentally it can provide us with a welcome method of relaxation and stress management.  

All classes include a series of yoga postures, (asanas) and breath work (pranayama) and conclude with a nice long relaxation!

I believe that Yoga in some form is suitable for everyone, whether you have special needs, are pregnant, have a specific ailment or are drawn to it simply for health & fitness reasons.

By making yoga a part of your life, you may become aware of subtle changes in your approach to life.  I know that my practice gives me a sense of well-being and inner strength.  I hope I can help you find your own benefits from this wonderful practice.

Vinyasa/Open flow

Classes follow a dynamic, flowing sequence of postures emphasising both strength and flexibility.  Each class includes breathing practices or prananyama, a series of yoga postures or asana, and a lovely long relaxation.  

Beginners/Gentle Classes

These classes are ideal for those who are new to yoga, are returning after a break or have limited range of movement.  They are also suitable for pregnancy.  Each student receives individual attention and modifications where appropriate.  Poses can all by modified to suit your ability.

                            6.00 - 7.00              BEGINNERS FLOW YOGA An introduction to vinyasa yoga.  Simple sequences modified to suit the individual.     

                            7.15 – 8.30pm           OPEN CLASS A flowing class emphasising strength and flexibility.

                               6.00 - 7.10 pm        GENTLE CLASS - Suitable for beginners, those returning to yoga, suffering with ill health or pregnant.

                               7.30 – 8.45pm          FLOW CLASS - connecting movement with the breath in a flowing (vinyasa) sequence.

Yin evenings are always an opportunity to counteract our busy lives; quiet and meditative.  This candlelit evening is extra special! Yin yoga poses are all floor-based, so the practice is quiet, reflective, meditative. We stay in poses for up to 8 minutes, allowing the deep connective tissue of the body to release. This can be powerful in releasing deep-held tension and restoring range of movement. An opportunity to find quiet in the busy run up to Christmas.

CHRISTMAS MINI RETREAT Friday 28 December 2018 Glentworth Village Hall, Stoney Lane, Glentworth DN21 5DF

Take some time out from the busy-ness of the festive period to rest and rejuvenate. Nourish body and mind with yoga, relaxation and healthy food.
The morning will start with an energising vinyasa flow, followed by a calming Yin sequence. We’ll draw our practice to a close with a deep healing relaxation and then take time over a nutritious light lunch.

YIN YANG DETOX WORKSHOP Saturday 5 January 2019 Central Wellness, Lincoln LN3 4NL

 The contrasting practices of dynamic vinyasa and quietening yin yoga provide the perfect tools to refresh and rebalance after the intensity of December. The morning will include a flowing vinyasa sequence designed to build heat and aid detoxification, followed by a quiet yin practice focusing on the meridian of the liver; our organ of detoxification. 

Our asana practice will be accompanied by cleansing pranayama techniques, relaxation and meditation, as well as a look at the ancient kriyas; yoga techniques which cleanse the internal organs.  We’ll follow our practice with a cleansing fresh juice and a light snack.

A morning to cleanse body and mind, leaving you restored and invigorated.

Dear Jo, Thank you so much for bringing yoga to Glentworth. I would recommend your classes to anyone; all standards are catered for within the same class from the first timer to the dedicated yogis. There is the perfect balance of relaxation and physical exercises taught in such a relaxing, fun manner that I hardly notice I am exercising (I certainly do the next day!). It is amazing how such gentle exercise can leave your body more supple and flexible whilst calming the mind at the same time. Jo's classes are amazing!  I often enter the class with my head buzzing from work, and I leave as a different person - a renewed me.  Challenging postures are always broken down well and Jo helps you to achieve each pose within your own comfort zone.  The chill out time at the end is fantastic.  With Jo's soothing voice and guidance, you cannot fail to be relaxed.  Well done Jo - and thank you xx

Hi Jo,

I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you. 

As you know I have been treated for breast cancer. Following surgery I  had chemo, radiotherapy and on medication for the next 5 yrs.  One of the side effects has left me with the inability  to sleep...only managing to get 4 nights sleep in 6 months. My GP was going to start me on yet more medication when I thought I would give yoga a try.

Oh My Goodness!  I honestly can't not believe the results. Since starting yoga ( so far only 5 sessions) I have slept like a log.

Not only has yoga helped me to sleep again it has also helped me around my wound site. I thought all was well, and I didn't have any problems, until I tried one of the yoga positions and found that I was much weaker on my affected side. NOT NOW! I now feel I have so much more movement and greater strength. Amazing in such a short space of time.

I plan to tell my oncologist  all about you and how fabulous  I feel.
